On Saturday February 7th, Worthington Christian High School students filled the Dave and Buster’s restaurant on Polaris with laughter, while anxiously striving to win various games during the annual Winter Event. The students enjoyed playing the many different games and eating their favorite restaurant foods. Students were entertained by the many gaming and food options provided for a mere $30 per ticket, and everyone got to do something a little different.
Freshman students Collin Pickett and Wesley LeFever played Rambo all night, while seniors Caleb Palumbo and Michael Bush battled each other in a variety of games. “This year’s Winter Event was awesome because no one told us what to do,” Bush said.
Unlike previous years, the 2010 Winter Event was extremely interactive, which pleased both students and teachers alike. Student Events representative Amy Gibson said that “The event went really well because it kept people busy.”
In the past, Worthington Christian has put on events where students were able only to sit and watch. This year was the exact opposite: not only did the event keep students busy, but the night was designed for students to interact with people other than their usual friends. Worthington Christian Teacher Miss Stephanie Johnson attended this year’s event with her fiancĂ© and commented that “It was so great being able to interact with students in a fun and exiting environment.”
Not only were students able to enjoy fun and exciting games, but they were also treated to a great meal, provided by Dave and Buster’s. Each person could choose from alfredo, spaghetti, or breaded chicken, as well as all the salad he could eat.Despite the variety, opinions towards the quality of the food varied. Freshman Rachel Parrish said that she thought the food was amazing, but senior Marsalis Brown thought that “it left something to be desired.” In contrasting this year’s Winter Event with the WCHS Homecoming, Brown added “Circle S Farms had better food, but Dave and Buster’s was definitely more of an enjoyable time.”
At the end of the night, many students who had won thousands of tickets lined up to cash in at the Prize Station. There were tons of prizes to choose from and everyone seemed to pick something a little different.
Senior Courtney Dickinson and her date won a giant stuffed dragon, but, she said, “My date decided to keep it.” However, Marsalis Brown noted of his date, “Raima [Forbes] cleaned house. She walked away with four to five stuffed animals!” Toys weren’t the only prizes being chosen, however; junior Jake Berlin won a blender that he plans to use for college.Overall, the feedback from this year’s annual Winter Event was extremely positive. Both students and faculty are very pleased with the way it turned out and hope to have similar events in the future.
