Some of the topics being discussed will include how you can relate Twilight to your everyday life and what lessons you can learn from it.Abby Camp, the group leader, notes, “I’m sure that most girls will just want to talk about how cute Edward Cullen is, but I’m hoping that we will get a little deeper than that.”
The club is sponsored by Mrs. MacKay, and is led by Abby Camp, as well as other members of student council. Abby Camp also says that she thinks "a bunch of girls will show up, since the books are so popular.”
Sara Katula, a Twilight fan, exclaims, “I love the Twilight series! I’ve read all the books because everyone was talking about them and I wanted to see what they were about. They are very interesting and easy to read!”
A number of girls at Worthington Christian High School (and some boys) are hooked on Twilight and can’t wait for the discussion group to start. Mrs. MacKay, the teacher in charge of the Twilight group, explains “We’re interested in looking at the literary value of Twilight and also looking at how it impacts our youths’ worldview today."Some people, however, aren’t exactly excited for the Twilight group.
Erin Szabo, a junior, mentions “I can’t wait for the discussion group to start, and to be able to see how emotionally unstable some girls are due to the fact that they have no sense of reality. They think that they can achieve the type of relationship that Edward and Bella have and it’s delusional!”
There are also many guys that aren’t exactly fans of the books or movies. Shane Fultz, who saw the movie Twilight, notes, “It was really long and boring, and the only good part was the baseball during the thunderstorm.”
Most people prefer the books over the movie, simply because the movie version left out a lot of important details.
Overall, many people are excited for the Twilight discussion group and are eager to voice their opinions and learn others’ opinions concerning both the books and the movie.
